You are absolutely right! That so many Americans are behind this monster is perhaps the single most baffling phenomenon of my lifetime . As a child, I wondered the same thing about Germans, and I see the same inexplicable occurrence here. There appears to be a special kind of stupid not necessarily linked to low native intelligence.
