Concerning his Intelligence

  • Synopses of previous installments: In Part 1 The president’s moral behavior was examined within the generally accepted framework of psychologist Lawrence Kohlberg, according to which Trump appears to operate at the bottom, at Level 1 — “avoidance of pain” and “what’s in it for me” — exclusively. Level 3, the highest attainable, about adhering to democratic norms and a “universal value of life,” is entirely absent from Trump’s governance. Part 2 examined Trump’s emotional maturity. Again, it was assessed in terms of universally generally accepted behavioral standards. And again he doesn’t fare well, predominantly showing the emotional maturity of a child. And, once again, we simply followed the evidence.

I read an online article by cognitive psychologist Bruno Campello de Souza that, although generally well written and expressed concerning Trump’s behavior, comes up well short in its attempt to estimate the IQs of Barak Obama and Donald Trump. First off, to say that they are roughly equal (at around 140) is a head-scratcher. One shouldn’t need IQ test results to see that President Trump has nowhere near the native intelligence of President Obama. To begin with, the two are polar opposites in their ability to express themselves, both orally and in writing. If you’ve heard Obama speak, you know he’s a highly articulate master of both word selection and wit. Trump, at the very opposite end of that spectrum, is a downright bumpkin.
