Since Trump 1.0, I've had to rethink my definition of stupid to now include a great many people of reasonably high native intelligence who've bought into notions that, despite not standing up to any real scrutiny, have been rationalized into solid beliefs, such as there's a "them" out there that I've got to get before it gets me. Fears and hate can do that to you. And I think feat and hate are two things shared by all Trump supporters.
