Is America Devolving?
by Robert Archerd
Instead of just another Democrats-vs-Republicans face-off, the 2024 election foretells a referendum on democratic versus authoritarian rule; or, put another way, the rule of law and the Constitution versus the whims of the moment of one particular autocrat. (The GOP 2020 platform, in essence, was “Whatever Trump says.”)
Also, you’ve likely heard to a point well past overkill that “old and feeble” Joe Biden has passed his presidential use-by date. And among the cheap shots launched by the MAGA crowd, the one most likely to stick is Trump-appointed Special Counsel Robert Hur’s “psychiatric diagnosis” that Biden’s memory is “significantly limited,” portraying the president as essentially washed up.
It appears, though, that it’s not just the GOP, the MAGA cult, and their wannabe Freud who find Biden’s age troubling, but seemingly a large swath of our overall voting population.
Okay, many who voted for Joe Biden in 2020, myself included, weren’t particularly enamored, voting for him mainly because he’s not Donald Trump. That said, he’s done a remarkable job so far, especially with his so-called Bidenomics, as all aspects of the economy have improved. Gas prices, unemployment (on its best pace in over 50 years), and inflation are down, and the gross domestic product, the Dow (to a record high), and wages are up.
Also, Joe Biden has far from cornered the market on gaffes. Au contraire, we could not only write a book featuring the misspeaks of one Donald Trump…
