Coincidentally, Dan, I left the following (slightly edited) comment today on the site of a particular Christian who's particularly fond of denigrating those whose views don't align with his:
The first word that would come to mind reading your articles was hate, which you consistently seemed to spew. Hate to all with a different point of view. Hate to all who spurn religion. Hate to all professed atheists.
Yet, upon reflection, hate is probably not the most accurate term for your excessive dismissiveness. More likely what I sense is more akin to contempt. Or scorn.
Whichever it is, the negativity drips more from your words than from those of any other writer I’m familiar with, as does a decidedly holier-than-thou arrogance. The presence of contempt is equal only to the absence of respect for all who dare to differ. And I’m not sure which I detect more, condescension or contempt. Maybe it’s a flat-footed tie.
In case you think I have a problem with your religion, don’t; I hold Christianity in high regard. But some Christians, not so much, due to their strong tendency, as you demonstrate here, to denigrate those with different views. And since the highest level of morality attainable is reflected in Jesus’ Golden Rule, where does all this arrogance fit in?
